Phil Hackneywas graduated from Newcastle Polytechnic, major in MechanicalTechnology. His research area is a new method of manufacturing called RapidManufacturing (also referred to as Rapid prototyping), which builds parts by aseries of very fine layers. This technology has the capability of revolutionizingthe way products are developed. It opens up the possibility of moving away frommass production to mass customization, where every product is different to suitthe user's needs.
